A lot of houses have been built without any way to store your car but you can build a garage yourself once you know the basics.
You first need to assess the skills involved in creating a garage. Things like plumbing and wiring should be left to the professionals but you will be able to do the basic construction yourself. One thing is for sure though, you will be able to attach the wall protector yourself.
You then need to get a permit for the build from your local council. Before you start the build you will need to make sure that your plans have been approved by the local authority otherwise you might be breaching regulations. Hiring a contractor that knows how to build a garage also knows whom to contact as well as the local construction rules.
You should measure the ground where you are going to build your garage. You need to make sure that you allow for at least 8 inches on the bottom so that gravel can be inserted before concrete is poured in. Your next assignment is the footer and should be dug so that it is below the frost line in your area. If you know how to build a garage you can either lay three or four layers of cement blocks on top of the footer, or use what is termed a floating slab for the floor, meaning that after the footer is in place, the concrete is poured and allowed to become part of the side wall.
After a thin vapour has been placed between the floor and the wood you can attach your side walls to the concrete clocks of the wall or directly onto the floating slab. You also need to be able to read design plans if you are to build the garage yourself. You should also make sure that you leave space in the walls for the door and any windows you might want depending on your garage style.
If you are looking for something easier you can get kits from your local hardware store that has all the materials and tools you will need included and these can be put together simply.
